Website Cost Breakdown: Design, Development, Hosting, Maintenance
Professional split between build and run costs. Why hosting and support should be quoted separately from project price.
A clear cost breakdown is a hallmark of professional web services. Informed clients want to know where money goes; professionals need contractual backing when scope expands.
Four cost layers
Layer 1: Discovery & design
Requirements workshops, wireframes, UI kit, key screens and mobile layouts. This layer produces intellectual property delivered before coding.
Layer 2: Build
Frontend, backend, database, admin panel, APIs, QA and initial deployment — including responsive layout, local payment gateway integration, baseline technical SEO and SSL/server setup.
Layer 3: Infrastructure (recurring)
- Shared hosting for light sites
- VPS for shops and small apps
- Dedicated/cloud for high traffic
- Annual domain renewal
- CDN/DNS when needed
Domain ownership should stay with the client even if the contractor purchased it.
Layer 4: Run (recurring)
Security patches, uptime monitoring, backups, bug fixes, content support and ongoing technical SEO. Define monthly hours or ticket limits — open-ended "free support" creates conflict.
Sample cost split (illustrative)
- UI/UX design (one-time): Figma deliverables
- Full-stack development (one-time): Admin panel and payments
- Initial deployment (one-time): SSL and Nginx
- VPS hosting (annual): Separate from build contract
- Technical support (monthly): Security updates and agreed change hours
Invoicing in Iran
Registered businesses should agree upfront on official invoices and VAT treatment under Iranian tax rules.
Satranaut quotes build, deployment, hosting and support separately for transparent decisions.
